Jennifer Hudson : ‘The Real Me’ Holiday Special Brings the Singer Back to Familiar Sites

Jennifer Hudson : ‘The Real Me’ Holiday Special Brings the Singer Back to Familiar Sites
When the Christmas decorations and merchandise pop up in the stores right after Halloween, Jennifer Hudson is not one of those Grinches who complains about it being too early.
''Not me! I love it,'' said the Oscar and Grammy winner, calling the Sun-Times the other day. ''I can't wait for Christmas to start. I love everything about it -- the decorations, the excitement, how beautiful everything looks, but most of all the music.''
The entertainer is excited to be hosting her first holiday special (7 p.m. Monday, WLS-Channel 7). ''And it's totally in my own hometown,'' the Chicago native said, clearly enthusiastic to show the nation ''my city, my Chicago, and in a way that, I hope, lets everyone get to know me a little better . . . the real me, not just the person they've seen in 'Dreamgirls' or read about in some magazine."
Perhaps the most thrilling part of showcasing ''the real'' Jennifer for Hudson was her return to her high school alma mater, Dunbar Vocational Career Academy on South King Drive. ''I cannot believe it's been 10 years since I graduated. When we went back there to tape the special, it felt like I had just left yesterday,'' Hudson said, stressing she feels a huge debt to the South Side school.
''It was at Dunbar where I first dared to dream of becoming an artist, where I really discovered that this is what I wanted to do.
''It was where I began to grow -- singing at school assemblies, ball games and all kinds of events.''
That became evident to Tony Eaton, the veteran Hollywood player who is the executive producer of ''Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home for Christmas.''
''I have to say, I've known many artists, and they can be caught up in themselves and very remote. But Jennifer is one of the warmest, most genuine human beings I've ever worked with -- and that was particularly evident when we filmed at Dunbar.
''She was so obviously delighted to see those kids [at the school]. She told me, 'I just feel so much at home here.' ''
For Hudson, another special filming locale was Evergreen Plaza in Evergreen Park, ''the mall where I first sang in public. It was so great to be back on that little platform.
''Back then, that was what I thought would be the height of where Jennifer Hudson would go in show business!''
Perhaps the most powerful location showcased in the special is Hudson's longtime spiritual home, Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church -- scene of musical triumphs and personal tragedies. That's where her mother, nephew and brother were eulogized after their tragic murders last year.
''I thought I was going to sing to an empty church,'' Hudson said. ''But when I walked out to sing 'Joy to the World' and saw the church filled with friends from grammar school and family members -- I couldn't even look at them, or else I would never have gotten through it.
''It was really an emotional moment.''
She also shot at Navy Pier, "where I have always loved that Ferris wheel," and on Michigan Avenue, "with those beautiful lights that always made me feel like I was starring in my very own Christmas movie,'' Hudson added with a laugh. ''I think it really shows who I am and lets me express my true personality. Plus we've got Michael Buble too!''
The Grammy-winning ''Crazy Love'' crooner was ''a total treat to work with,'' Hudson said. ''I think he's the perfect voice to capture that pure, traditional sound you want for a Christmas special.''
Buble and Hudson sing duets on the classics ''Baby, It's Cold Outside'' and ''Let It Snow."

Jade Ewen has admitted that she is under pressure to do well in the Sugababes.

Jade Ewen has admitted that she is under pressure to do well in the Sugababes.
Ewen, who replaced original Sugababe Keisha Buchanan in September, told The Sun that she
wants to live up to people's expectations.
"The band have been around a long time," she said. "Keisha is a phenomenal singer. I don't want to come in to this like I've just swanned in at the last minute and not take it seriously. I've got a big task on my hands and I don't want to disappoint."

However, Ewen added that she isn't worried about the prospect of a chart battle between the old and new Sugababes lineups.

How Build Up to Music Education future :TV Correspondence Courses Promising Diploma

Distance learning has come a long way. Once the domain of dubious “as seen on TV” correspondence courses promising diplomas in such arcane disciplines as air conditioning installation and VCR and gun repair, distance education has entered the mainstream. Today, institutions ranging from the Ivy Leagues to local K-12 programs offer virtual coursework on their Websites, iTunes, YouTube and Second Life. Originally designed for working adults, online courses are now a real component of every phase of “traditional” education, and for a generation brought up on the Internet, the transition is seamless. According to the U.S. Department of Education, 66 percent of post-secondary learning institutions offer distance learning programs, with 12.2 million enrollments in college-level credit-granting distance education courses in 2006-07.
At Berklee College of Music, distance learning tools are a far cry from the mail-in music theory correspondence courses the school offered back in the ’50s, but the goals are the same: to connect Berklee’s instructors and curricula with a global network of musicians. According to Debbie Cavalier, Berklee’s Dean of Continuing Education, the scope and learning outcomes for Berkleemusic.com courses are similar to Berklee’s face-to-face environment, but the path to get there is different. “We’ve structured our online courses to address many different learning modalities,” she says. “Text, audio, video, live chat, discussion board activities, Flash interactions and hands-on projects are all provided throughout the lessons to help students gain knowledge through their preferred learning style.”

At Berkleemusic, students can enroll in individual classes or work toward an intensive three-course Specialist Certificate; four, five or six-course Professional Certificate; or an eight, nine or 12-month Master Certificate. Classes run 12 weeks and cost $995, or $1,195 for college credit. Each week, students work through the lesson material, post questions, upload assignments, listen to and critique each other’s work, answer questions, interact with their instructor, receive feedback on weekly assignments and participate in a weekly class meeting online. “The class community becomes a vibrant online learning environment with lots of communication and musical exchange,” says Cavalier. “Students who are new to Berkleemusic are often surprised by how much they learn, how rigorous the Berkleemusic online courses are and how connected they feel to their classmates and instructor throughout the 12-week term.”

The immediate benefits are obvious: Online courses offer flexibility and convenience; and students can usually log in anytime, anywhere. Classes are generally available on an affordable a la carte basis — and with the average yearly tuition at a four-year college creeping over $25,000, cost is certainly a consideration…

Web-based audio curriculums are exploding: Berkleemusic.com, which is largely recognized as the pioneer of online audio education, leads the market with the world’s largest catalog, offering more than 100 accredited courses and 30 certificate programs to more than 25,000 students in 90 countries…
That said, the notion of the “real world” is evolving, and smart students are exploring new models of working. “Global collaboration is taking place in all sorts of industries,” says Garcia. “In recording, people are collaborating and working together more without being in the same studio. I think distance education actually prepares you for that new world, where you are working with people who you don’t see, people you are not in the same room with.”

Ultimately, online education is just like most things in life: What you get out of it is in direct proportion to what you put into it. “It is an utter myth that online or distance learning is simply a bunch of resources made available online — it is not,” says Hambly. “What is essential is carefully crafted pedagogical systems where a relationship forms between the student and his or her peers and learning advisor. If potential students find that the courses are without appropriate advisor moderation and guidance, my advice is to stay well clear of them as you will not be getting a valuable educational experience. It is in the interaction, or, ‘social learning,’ where the real learning takes place.”

Confirming Her Recent Breakup:2008 Fellow Singer The Split Titles

Decked out in barely-there sequined costumes, Julianne Hough skated (and raced) her way to two Dancing with the Stars titles with partners Apolo Ohno and Helio Castroneves. But the bubbly blonde had more than disco-ball trophies on her horizon.
Rachel Smith hosts Day 4 Webisode of the 2008 CMA Music Festival.
Confirming her recent breakup with the fellow singer, she says "time apart" led to the split.

Wicks branded Hough his "date" for the evening and refused to confirm or deny reports they are no longer an item.
Still, People.com reports that Wicks, 30, couldn't hide his "achey-breaky heart" backstage, where he reportedly sat slumped in his chair, unsmiling.
While Wicks has been nursing a bruised ego, though, Hough, 21, who's also a country singer, has been busy wrapping up her musical tour before beginning production on the feature film "Burlesque."

Music Festival -2008 : Meet Taylor Swift, and other fri....

Despite their recent split, Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks made the rounds together at Wednesday's Country Music Association Awards in Nashville.

Now Hough has officially admitted she is no longer romantically involved with Wicks, but insists they will always be friends.
She says, "It's a good thing for us right now. We are both extremely busy and working on our careers and really focused on that. We are such good friends. Of course, we weren’t together (at the awards). We will always continue being good friends."

Video Song Model : Rihanna Shift To "Good Morning America"

Video Song Model : Rihanna Shift To "Good Morning America"

"When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result into some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part," the singer said. "I couldn’t be held responsible for telling them, 'Go back.' Even if Chris never hit me again, who’s to say their boyfriend won’t? Who’s to say they won’t kill these girls? These are young girls, and I just didn’t realize how much of an an impact I had on these young girls' lives until that happened. It was a wake-up call."

If this telegenic confession tells the real story, Rihanna did not turn away from Brown to protect herself. She did so to shepherd the fans who follow her less significant choices -- in hairstyle, clothes and runway-ready attitude -- away from making a big mistake, as she had.

That's a remarkable admission of distance from her own wounded heart, and a fascinating peek into how celebrities relate to the "personal" lives they now must live almost completely within the public eye.

Rihanna made the right choice, for herself and for those fans about whom she cares so deeply, when she walked away from Brown. She's making more good decisions now, managing her return to the spotlight with dignity and that icy poise for which she's famous. (I also like her risky new single, "Russian Roulette," though my colleague August Brown has some questions about it; you can read his powerful analysis here.)

But isn't it telling that she is spinning her own self-preservation as a move to save other women's lives? Many pop stars shun the mantle of role model; here is a 21-year-old, often accused in the media of being a cipher for her producers and management team, who is not only stepping up to that responsibility but also making it the reason she should nurture herself.

Admirable. Disturbing. Do we want our entertainers to feel our needs so acutely? The feminist in me applauds Rihanna for going on a major network program and telling young women to firmly resist the lure of a dangerous love, to learn to separate themselves from the myths of romance that, in fact, pop songs so often reinforce.

But another part of me wonders why she's telling us she had to step outside herself to take this stand. Rihanna uses words like "embarrassing" and "humiliating" -- words of shame, not of pain or helplessness -- to describe how Brown's assault made her feel. She may say something very different to her family and other intimates. But what we see is a young woman who's finding her greatest strength by remembering that others are always watching her.

But what if, hypothetically, “Roulette” is really, truly, how Rihanna feels about herself, her self-worth and what she wants out of her relationships? No one questions the difficulty of what she’s going through, nor her instinct to trawl the darkest corners of her psyche and public profile for material. By acknowledging these self-destructive feelings, she could help other victims know they aren’t isolated in such thoughts. The best art engenders empathy among its audience, and even the bleakest songs about abuse can work toward those ends. But other such close reads of "Roulette" have to compete with a much bigger and emotionally powerful explanation of the song. It’s tough to see many fans walking away from this reserved and demanding single – filled in by events in Rihanna’s public profile — without an image of abuse that suggests it’s a reflection on your worth as a woman.

Rihanna doesn’t owe us anything, of course, and is entirely entitled to sing about her abuse and emotions about it any way she pleases, even if (especially if?) it makes us deeply uncomfortable. There are many directions on the moral compass that get us to a better understanding of the human heart, and sometimes the best art sets the worst examples. But one wonders if, by sticking to what she has done best – using images suggesting she’s at the mercy of others -- Rihanna made the most of a truly unique opportunity to show us something more of herself.

This is all compounded, again, by how little Rihanna offers us here in the way of clues to decode the song. All the subtext in “Roulette” is inserted by the listener, and that seems entirely purposeful from her and Ne-Yo. While that’s a fascinating device, I’m not sure it does justice to the severity of what a listener naturally will take away from the song. Rihanna is exploring some of the most fraught psychological terrain in human relationships, but she intentionally pulls back whenever any detail threatens to get specific. The silvery detachment of the music – distant reverbs, ephemeral voices -- only adds to the effect. “Roulette” is a song about feeling depersonalized, but it doesn’t offer much forward momentum in exploring that feeling — it just is depersonalized.

Our tabloid-and-Twitter culture has made Rihanna's whole life a performance. Now, she is throwing that reality back in our faces, and we too can feel some embarrassment. Every Web surfer who clicked on the famous picture of her bruised face after the assault contributed to Rihanna's humiliation. Rihanna may be too polite, and too media-savvy, to point that out. But her guarded moves make it clear that her well-earned instinct to flinch remains.

Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora Sing a Song

Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora Sing a Song
"We started writing a couple of boy/girl songs, a Richie-got-out-of-rehab kind of a song, and we were going, `uggh, this is just tedious and it's not going anywhere','' Bon Jovi explained."Then last October the whole world changed - this economic downturn, we named a candidate for president, and suddenly there's lots of subject matter.''In the first single off the album, We Weren't Born To Follow, he sings "this road was paved by the hopeless and the hungry'', while urging listeners to "believe that the sun will shine tomorrow''.

That was the only quote on the press release. Couldn't they have given us a corny quote from Jon Bon Jovi that was obviously written by a PR person? You know, something like "During this tour, which would have never happened without AEG Live, Mastercard or Duracell batteries, we will 'circle the world' and see a million faces, and we'll ROCK THEM ALL!"JLS- who came second on X Factor last year- will perform their second single Everybody In Love back in the studio where it all began.Rock legends Bon Jovi will play their new track We Weren’t Born To Follow

Jon Bon Jovi Announced: The Circle World Tour "Two Year"

The Circle World Tour "Two Year"
Bon Jovi announced a two-year world tour on Thursday that will include 30 countries and 135 cities, including Chicago. "The Circle World Tour," named after the band's upcoming album, "The Circle," comes to Soldier Field on July 30, 2010.
Bon Jovi played three shows at the United Center in Feb. 2008 during the "Lost Highway" tour, but that was only the band's second tour with AEG Live. According to AEG Live President and CEO Randy Phillips, this upcoming tour is going to be better for obvious reasons.
"It is often said that the third time is a charm, and in the case of the Bon Jovi/AEG Live relationship, this axiom certainly holds," Phillips said by press release. "AEG Live has been honored to serve as the band's worldwide tour promoters, from the 2005 'Have A Nice Day' tour to the highest grossing tour of 2008, 'Lost Highway,' to the upcoming 'The Circle World Tour' in 2010. Bon Jovi is one of the most prolific and exciting live rock bands in the world."
US rockers Bon Jovi have confirmed Australia will be part of their world tour in support of the new album The Circle. While no dates are locked in yet, frontman Jon Bon Jovi says Australia will "absolutely'' feature in their 30-country, two-year tour, which kicks off in February. Both acts will appear on the show on November 1 as viewers vote off a fourth act.

New Boyz started 2009 as a Los Angeles underground youth phenomenon, but in only a matter of months, they’ve become rising stars on a national level. In this short time period, 17-year-olds Ben J and Legacy have gone from shows in local high school gyms to performing on the red carpet at the BET Awards and booking an impressive lineup of concerts across the country.
This astounding jump comes from the success of their song “You’re a Jerk,” a hypnotic dancefloor-filler that the New York Times called “pretty much perfect.” Though it started as a favorite on MySpace, it has turned into a certified hit. It not only became the most requested track on influential L.A. radio station Power 106, but it’s taken over playlists around the country. During its first week for sale on iTunes, “You’re a Jerk” sold over 53 thousand copies.

Dionne Bromfield is a schoolfriend set to follow, will it just be a vanity venture?

will it just be a vanity venture?

English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse, 26, is to appear on BBC1 One’s Strictly Come Dancing this weekend – as a backing singer for her 13 year old goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield. She has signed to Amys own record label.
Winehouse may not have released any new material since the 10 million-selling Back To Black three years ago, but she is making herself heard on the music scene again after setting up Lioness Records.
Her first release is the debut album by Dionne Bromfield, who sounds like a sweeter, more youthful Winehouse with a collection of 1960s soul and girl group covers.
One of Winehouse's long-time backing singers Zalon Thompson is also expected to join the label after recording a solo album with Back To Black co-producer Mark Ronson.
Winehouse's manager Raye Cosbert recently said Zalon's brother and fellow backing vocalist - and former X Factor hopeful - Heshima would follow.
He has also mentioned the name Juliette, likely referring to Winehouse's close friend Juliette Ashby, who was the other half of rap duo Sweet 'n' Sour with Winehouse when they were 10 years old.
Winehouse wanted to set up a label to "bring through the talent around her", according to Darcus Beese, co-president of Island Records, who signed the singer in 2003.
Dionne Bromfield is the first signing to the Back to Black star’s new record label, Lioness. The pair will stage Bromfield’s first single Mama Said, originally a hit for The Shirelles in 1961.
Bromfield said: “Amy and I both love Strictly… so it was brilliant to find out I’ll be on TV for the first time singing on one of my favourite shows.”
Winehouse, is convinced her goddaughter can have a successful career. “The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing – such an amazing voice from such a young girl. “She’s so much better than I was at her age.”

Beyoncé Knowles, whose loss to Taylor Swift in the Best Female Video category prompted West to storm the stage and steal the microphone from Swift at the Sept. 13 ceremony, says she understands the rapper's motivation.
Beyonce has broken her silence over Kanye West's infamous outburst at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, insisting she was horrified when the rapper interrupted Taylor Swift to voice his support for his pal.
The 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)' hitmaker lost out to Swift for the Best Female Video prize at last month's ceremony - but the country singer's big moment was ruined when West stormed the stage in protest and proclaimed it belonged to Beyonce.
Well, I knew his intentions, and I knew he was standing up for art; and he told me before, when they said the nominees, he's like, 'You have this award,'" she told O: The Oprah Magazine editor-at-large Gayle King.

Madonna & David Letterman : Discuss Marriage A-Road etc.....

Madonna & David Letterman : Discuss Marriage A-Road etc.....

The feuding pair was separated by the host of fictitious MTV show 'Deep House Dish', but a comedy war of words ensued as Gaga, the show's musical guest, cooed, "Guess what Madonna, I'm totally hotter than you," to which the Material Girl replied, "Hey guess what, I'm taller than you. What sort of a name is Lady Gaga; it sounds like baby food!"
It was a star-studded "Saturday Night Live" with Ryan Reynolds guest hosting and his wife Scarlett Johansson playing his comedy spouse in a skit about a family porcelain fountain firm. Reynolds also raised laughs as a prison dance instructor in fictitious show 'So You Committed A Crime & You Think You Can Dance', a segment hosted by comedian Andy Samberg as Britney Spears' overweight ex Kevin Federline.

Madonna published photographs of her wedding to Guy Ritchie

Madonna published photographs of her wedding to Guy Ritchie

Madonna has accepted substantial undisclosed damages from the Mail on Sunday after it published photographs of her wedding to Guy Ritchie.
A staged - and rather poorly acted - fight between Lady Gaga and Madonna on Saturday Night Live has become an instant YouTube sensation.
The skit featured the two pop stars performing on stage together in similar tight-fitting outfits.
The photographs were the only ones taken at the wedding at Skibo Castle in 2000 and were kept in a photograph album by Madonna. An interior designer copied pictures from that album, Madonna's lawyer is reported to have said.
Those pictures were offered for sale to the Mail on Sunday by an intermediary in June 2008. The newspaper did not publish them until October of that year, when Madonna's divorce was announced.
PA reported that Associated Newspapers accepted that it had behaved wrongly and accepted that it had invaded her privacy and infringed her copyright.
The paper published 10 of the 27 photos that were copied from Madonna's album. It said that it had destroyed all copies of the photos in its possession.
Photographs of celebrity weddings have led to legal disputes in the past. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas won a landmark ruling in 2003 when a magazine published unauthorised pictures of their wedding on the same day as the magazine to which they had sold the right to publish their wedding pictures.
Madonna and Lady Gaga stunned America on Saturday night by staging a catfight on live TV. The two pop divas performed a synchronized dance-off, dressed in matching black lingerie and knee-high boots, as part of a comedy skit on Saturday Night Live, which was called to a halt when Madonna started pulling Gaga's wig and throttling her, yelling, "What the hell is a disco stick?" - referring to the younger star's hit.

Jennifer Hudson Talks at Event celebrating it's 70th Anniversary

Event celebrating it's 70th Anniversary

The show also featured "Dancing With the Stars" cast member Julianne Hough (who sang the Scarecrow's song "If I Only Had a Brain"), R&B crooner Bilal and Roots drummer ?uestlove, who also produced the whole show.
“He’s the cutest thing in the world!” she said to People magazine. “There are no other words for it. He’s the best. It’s just amazing—us discovering each other, me becoming a mom.”
The new mom also shared her belief that she passed on her music gene and said that he is already into music. Hudson said that when “someone turns on the music…he just stops and calms down” when he’s having a “screaming fit.”
She said: "He's a very rare newborn. He tries a lot - he's turning over, he's lifting up his own head, he tries to hold his own bottle, sometimes I swear he's talking to me, or at least trying to.
"The other day he said, 'Hi!' - I swear, I'm not crazy. David was there too, and he was like, 'He just said, Hi!' He's very aware."
Jennifer is inspired to be a good parent by her own mother - who, along with the singer's brother Jason, was killed by William Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer's sister Julia last year.
"The other night he was having a fit screaming, and someone turns on the music and he just stops and calms down. And I was exactly the same way as a baby."

She attended Professional Performing Arts School and graduated at 16. She later attended Columbia University before dropping out to pursue her music career. Keys' debut album, Songs in A Minor, was a commercial success, selling over 12 million copies worldwide. She became the best-selling new artist and best-selling R&B artist of 2001. The album earned Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Fallin'". "Working together on 'Empire State of Mind' was incredible," Keys said. "I've admired Jay-Z for a long time. Reasonable Doubt is my all-time favorite album, period, and he's been on the scene for long time. I always figured that we would do some type of collaboration, and finally, it came together with this. He reached out to me said, 'I have this big New York record. I feel its right for us to do it together. It has this big Frank Sinatra, take-it-there feeling. I feel like you could really do something with it.'

Kanye West & Lady Gaga Just Stop Country Tour Of Hot Interview

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A U.S. and Canada tour by Kanye West and Lady Gaga has been canceled with no reason given just weeks after the rap star came under public fire for humiliating country star Taylor Swift at an awards ceremony.
Concert promoter Live Nation said in a statement on Thursday that the "Fame Kills" tour, that was due to kick off in Phoenix, Arizona on November 10 and run through January, had been canceled with refunds available at the point of sale.
West came under fire after an outburst at the MTV Video Music wards when he grabbed the microphone as country teen star Taylor Swift was responding to her best female video award to say that R&B star Beyonce should have won Swift's trophy.
The Grammy winner has since apologized to Swift and expressed regret twice on the Web and in a TV appearance on "The Jay Leno Show" for his behavior that drew boos from the crowd and prompted a ban of his music by some radio stations in California and Florida.
The Fame Kills tour was set to begin in Phoenix next month and continue until January next year. However, promoter Live Nation announced yesterday that the concerts would no longer go ahead. A reason has not yet been given, although those who bought tickets will be refunded.
It's been a turbulent few weeks for West, who was heavily criticised for his behaviour at the MTV VMA awards in New York last month. The rapper invaded the stage as country star Taylor Swift picked up an award, grabbing the mic to say: "Taylor, I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time ..." Criticism was so rife that even President Obama called West a "jackass". The rapper later made a shame-faced appearance on The Jay Leno Show where he attributed his behaviour to the fact that he hasn't had time to grieve for his mother, who died in 2007.
When 50 Cent called himself the "greatest show on Earth" during a radio interview on Wednesday, he wasn't kidding about the circus reference.
The G-Unit rapper held court on a number of topics with Angie Martinez on New York's Hot 97, from Kanye West and Lady Gaga's joint tour to Jay-Z to his possible plans to hang up the mic. The interview was lively, at times insulting and often confusing.

A Hot Performance a winner Manson's swine flu

A Hot Performance a winner Manson's swine flu
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson has come down with the Swine Flu, but doctors say he's going to be fine. Meanwhile, the potentially deadly virus hasn't killed his ongoing tour -- or his twisted sense of humor.
Manson is booked solid through December on a world tour, and on Sunday he was captured on video blowing mucus on stage in Canada, just a few feet from fans in the front row.
Manson also joked about the virus on his MySpace Celebrity blog this week.
TORONTO -- Contrary to online posts attributed to Marilyn Manson himself, the shock-rocker's reps are saying that he does not, in fact, have swine flu.
The Gillett Entertainment Group and Live Nation sent out a release on Friday denying that Manson had contracted the illness and confirming that he would play his two remaining Canadian tour dates.
"So I have officially been diagnosed, by a real doctor, with THE SWINE FLU," Manson had written. "Unfortunately, I am going to survive."
He crawls among us.
He spits, shrieks, stomps, writhes, dry-humps, bitches about his swine flu, professes undying love and yes, even walks among us. He is Manson, and he is not dead yet.
Two nights after Metallica shook - and packed - the Bell Centre, Marilyn Manson brought 4,000-plus into the rink's theatre setup, proving anti-heroism is trumped by thrash virtuosity. But let it be said - obviously suffering from something we hope isn't really swine flu, the devil had some good lines.
As red stage lighting was greeted with a sincere volley of devil horns from the faithful, cue the eerie. Wearing moonboots and a jacket bearing the words HELL, ETC., Manson emerged in front of a massive Star Spangled backdrop, fell to his knees and - what's the opposite of praying?

Breakthrough Colbie Caillat Fallin For Song

Colbie Caillat Fallin music

"Dude, that wasn't scary at all," she says. "I was falling from the sky and just noticing that I didn't even have butterflies in my stomach. It was actually really relaxing. I wanna do it again -- with stunts!"
It turns out there's more to Colbie Caillat than first meets the eye.
That goes for her music, as well: Last week, Caillat released "Breakthrough," the follow-up to her double-platinum 2007 debut, "Coco"; it debuted at the top of the Billboard chart with 106,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Though the new album hews closely to the vanilla-bean vibe of her first, it also reveals a quietly maturing songwriter, one capable of capturing the everyday vicissitudes of romance in language that feels talky and true to life

A Top Story This Week Top Charts-Colbie Caillat

Bubbly singer Colbie Caillat

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) – "Bubbly" singer Colbie Caillat broke through to the top of the U.S. album chart for the first time on Wednesday, while Miley Cyrus made a surprise showing at No. 3.
"Breakthrough," Caillat's second album, sold 106,000 copies during the week ended August 30, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Caillat's first album, 2007's "Coco," opened at No. 5 with 51,000 and has so far sold 2 million copies in the U.S. It yielded the hit single "Bubbly," which reached the top 10 of the Hot 100.
"I wrote about me falling for this guy who I went out on a date with, and it was just so unexpected that I was going to fall for him, like all these little things about him that I ended up adoring and falling for," she said. "The instruments — I added, like, the violin and cello, but it's not overpowering, it's just tucked back in the mix. [It's] more grown up."
"You always hope for the best, but you never actually think it's going to happen," Caillat told Billboard.com from England, where she's currently touring. "I never want to get my hopes up. Everyone kept saying, 'I think it's gonna be No. 1. It's gonna be No. 1. It looks like it,' and I just kept trying to ignore it 'cause I didn't want it to not happen. And now that it is happening, I can't believe it."
When Colbie Caillat sings on her new album about being fearless, you figure she's speaking in relative terms. After all, this 24-year-old artist from Malibu has ascended to the ranks of pop's top-selling stars thanks to a series of hit singles that virtually define the absence of creative risk: "Bubbly," "Realize," "The Little Things" -- each arrives on a gentle wave of acoustic guitar and laid-back vocals, with safe-as-milk lyrics that wouldn't upset a nun.

Preview Timbaland Unleashes First Look Beaterator

First Look Beaterator

LOS ANGELES - Timbaland is not afraid of wannabes stealing his flow.
The producer-singer, who has collaborated with musicians ranging from Justin Timberlake to Nelly, has found a new duet partner in Rockstar Games. Timbaland is teaming up with the developer behind the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise on the handheld music-making application "Beaterator," but the hip-hop impresario doesn't think the app will put him out of a job.
"I can give you everything," he teases, "but you're not gonna think like I would think."
Australia, September 3, 2009 - Boy, this game has been a long time coming. Starting life as a Flash game on Rockstar's website in 2005, Beaterator was green lit as an internal project that very same year, with Rockstar Leeds – Rockstar's handheld gurus – heading up development. It wasn't until Timbaland came on board in 2007, however, that Beaterator's development really went into overdrive. Fast forward to late 2009 and the result of all those long years of work is something very special.
Music games are all the rage these days, with lots of plastic instruments to choose from for your Guitar Heroing, Rock Banding and Sing Starring pleasure. The difference between Beaterator and these rhythm / music games is that here you're creating music, not imitating it. There's no hackneyed storyline here about an up-and-coming music producer trying to fight his way off of the mean streets, defying all odds in his bid to make it to the big time. Think of Beaterator more like a music-making tool that you can access on the go, allowing you to craft music from a library that encompasses thousands of different sounds and loops, including 1300 or so that Timbaland made specifically for Beaterator. While I wasn't able to go through the entire audio catalog during my brief demo, I did get to check out some synthy laser sounds, which made my day.

The original mission of the Zydeco Festival was to revive the culture through the music," said Lena Charles, the Zydeco Festival director and president of the Southern Development Foundation, which presents the festival. "It's a proud culture, and in the time the festival has been around, we think it's been successful in its original mission."

Coming Soon Culture of Zaydeco Soul Music

Culture of Zaydeco Soul Music
Things will get a little salty at this year's Zydeco Festival in Plaisance, as the city celebrates the music and culture of zydeco. And that's just how the festival's organizers want it.

The Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Festival, which turns 27 this year, celebrates the music of one of Louisiana's richest cultural traditions. When the festival began 27 years ago, it was a simple creation: a flatbed truck refashioned into a stage sitting in the center of a large open field in Plaisance, a community just north of Opelousas. The flatbed truck provided a platform for a lineup of old-time zydeco musicians, and the festival's original impulse was one of resuscitation.
The festival has also gotten support from the Lafayette Convention and Visitor Commission and the Louisiana Tourist Commission.

"A lot of organizations and businesses have come together to make this festival happen," Charles said. "They're showing that this community has pride in their culture and their history."
"This music comes from a people that didn't have a lot," Charles said. "And look at us now. Zydeco music is mainstream. And the new artists are all so talented.

Jason Talkes to MTV News Interview At Outside Lands history

Jason Talkes to MTV News Interview

Following a set of loose, groovy surf music, Jason Mraz stopped by the MTV News tent at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco to explain how a raw food restaurant inspired his album, the science behind his record-breaking smash "I'm Yours" and what he hopes his music inspires in his fans (which apparently has a lot to do with high-fives).
"The song was really born into the crowd. ... I noticed almost an immediate response to it and people really celebrated in a different way during that song," he said in a phone interview. "And then by having those three years to jam to the song, it gave us the opportunity to do something simple, yet spirited" in the studio.
I'm Yours first charted in May 2008, hit No 6 in September 2008 and has spent 71 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.
The previous record-holder, LeAnn Rimes' late-1990s hit How Do I Live, lasted 69 weeks.) Mraz's tune also nominated for Song of the Year at this year's Grammy Awards.
Though the accomplishment is one the 32-year-old is proud of, he says it does not mean he has necessarily reached a milestone in his career.
